Mister Speaker: I rise to commend the efforts of our former colleague Tony Hall, Rev. David Beckman, Rev. Jim Wallis, Mark Bittman and more than 6,000 people across the country as they take part in a hunger fast to protest the draconian cuts to programs that affect the hungry and most vulnerable in America and around the world. The Republican plan, H.R. 1, would decimate what is now being called the Circle of Protection: the programs that protect the hungry and the most vulnerable both here at home and around the world. I urge my colleagues to show that America doesn’t turn its back on people in need — to have a heart — and resist cutting these lifesaving programs. Congressman James P. McGovern (D-MA)

Thank you Jim McGovern for rising to speak against cuts in human services especially for our most vulnerable elders, people on Medicaid, those with disabilities, the poor. We are all fasting hoping for some show that US Congresspeople have a heart! We KNOW that there is a lot of unused funding in the DEFENSE budget that really has to be cut in this economic climate, in order to make funding available for those of us at home who have suffered so greatly from Wall Street greed. We also need a re-alignment of priorities toward green industrial production and jobs, which will actually help us build our economic stability. Thanks,
Pam Kelly (Same persom who worked for N2N, now in Western Mass–John Olver’s district.)
